What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an age old healing modality, which utilizes placing very thin sterile single use needles into specific points on the body. These points stimulate the central nervous system/brain and the theory behind them is based off of how the internal organs work with relation to each other and to the rest of the body. There is no separation from the internal organs to the external bones and skin, so when manipulation is done on the outside, things are changed on the inside. Due to this, acupuncture can affect any part of the body internally and externally. Along with acupuncture a variety of other adjunctive techniques are also utilized when necessary such as cupping, moxabustion, guasha, plum blossom, mineral heat lamp therapy, tuina (chinese massage) and electro acupuncture.
Acupuncture stimulates the natural healing mechanism that exists within the central nervous system. Acupuncture does not heal you, it stimulates the body to heal itself. Due to this most acute issues are more easily treated than chronic conditions, which may only need 1-6 treatments to get better. Chronic conditions need a minimum of 6-10 treatments per yer of the existing condition. The number of treatments heavily depends on the condition, the severity of it and of your lifestyle. If you have a relatively health lifestyle you will get more out of the treatments. If you are heavily medicated and do not eat well, drink enough water, not active or constantly stressed then the acupuncture may only provide temporary to some relief. With that being said every one reacts very differently to acupuncture and you will not know how you respond until you try it. Treatments are usually done 1-2x a week to start of with and as progress is being made they are gradually spread apart ensuring healing is taking place. During your initial treatment I will be able to provide you with a general sense of how many treatments you may need to reach your goals.
Acupuncture has been in existence for over 2,000 years and is a safe and effective treatment for a number of medical conditions.
